Lucy Large, Offerings, 2019
unfired porcelain paperclay |
Contributing to a visual conversation with the other artists in the cell these clay forms attempt to ‘meet’ the building in its current state – as a sentient space, capable of transformation or redemption; a site of human narrative, but also a building evolving with its own story – spelt out in mould, peeling paint and rust.
The sculptures resemble forms from the natural world – physically fragile, possibly referring to decay, perhaps new life. They are not presented as commentary or opinion, rather placed as ‘offerings’ - a mirroring or greeting to the building as it grows, peels, decays, becomes.
